They offer the advantage of lower cost, simpler installation and easy replacement. Shown in Figure 1 is the wear pad protecting a pipe riding on a flat surface. They can also be configured as Flat on Flat or Radius on Radius. Typically, [FRP Wear Pads](https://www.thesteelsupplyco.com/frp-wear-pads/fiberglass-reinforced-plastic-wear-pads) will be fixed in place with epoxy. Mechanical anchors are not required. It is important the pads be located in areas with adequate access to allow for replacement. The lifespan will depend on the load and frequency of movement, operating temperature range and environment. As applications become more demanding bonded Fluorogold® or Teflon® Slide Bearings may be required. These will offer a lower coefficient of friction and longer service life.
