Also known as Shelf Angle Inserts or Maleable Iron Inserts, these are the most common and flexible method of securing Relieving Angles (Lintels.)

The Steel Supply Company carries a Standard length and a Long Wedge Insert. Both accept a 3/4" dia Askew Head Bolt. There are Wedge Inserts that accept a 5/8" diameter Askew Head Bolt. These were used from the 1960's to 1990 and are not called out in new construction any longer. We do stock the 5/8" diameter askew head bolt for customers who may be doing renovation work and come accross the old 5/8" wedge insert already in place.

Askew Head Bolts are measured in barrel length only. The head is not counted as part of the length. They are available in lengths of 1-1/2", 2", 2-1/2", and 3". Longer Askew Head Bolts can be manufactured to order. The Wedge Insert, Askew Head Bolt, Nut and Washer are always Hot Dip Galvanized.

As seen in the face of the Wedge Insert it allows for vertical adjustment. The inside surface of the Askew Head Bolt is angled to mate with the inside surface of the Wedge Insert. This assure tension will be maintained and the angle will not slip downward under a load. Horizontal adjustment is made with slots in the relieving angle.

Typical relieving angle projects also require shims to account for variations in the concrete. The Steel Supply Company has the most complete selection of construction grade shims in the industry. Slotted Steel Shims, Plastic Shims, Plastic Wedge Shims, Steel Wedges , etc.
