Hot Dip Galvanizing provides rebar with a longer lasting, heavier, more durable coating.
By comparison to ECR (Epoxy Coated Rebar or Green Bar) the user will find the ERC coating is 1) much thinner and 2) damages more easily. Transportation and jobsite conditions often leave ECR with bare spots where the epoxy has been stripped away. These can lead to premature corrosion and spalling.
Hot Dip Galvanizing provides a thicker coating and also a more permanent molecular bond between the steel and zinc coating. It will naturally last longer than an ECR coating but is also much more resistant to damage due to transportation and handling.
Galvanized Rebar is coated to ASTM A767 specifications. If threaded prior to galvanizing care must be taken to clear any excess zinc from the threads. This is especially important in cases where the thread is tapered, such as the Lenton or Dayton Superior Tapered Thread systems. (links to accessories)
