Wedge Insert – General Installation Review

Wedge Inserts are also referred to as: Relieving Angle Insert, Shelf Insert, Malleable Iron Insert, Concrete Wedge Insert.

NOTE: These diagrams are intended as a general review and are not to be used as installation instructions. The Installer should contact the project manager for requirements regarding the installation of Wedge Inserts, Askew Head Bolts and Relieving Angles.

Brick is installed.

Note the gap between the brick below the Relieving Angle / Shelf Angle. Also the gap left where the lower leg of the angle ends. Plans will show what is intended for these areas. Often ther is a foam backer rod and pliable sealant installed, and in the gap below the angle there can be some type of compressible foam, neoprene or other material. These finishing steps are usually not the responsibility of the Steel Fabricator.
